Greenpoint Hosts Pastry Potluck for NYC Marathon Runners

On Saturday, October 24, Greenpoint will host a delightful event for runners and carb enthusiasts alike: The Longest Pastry Table. This unique gathering will take place on a car-free stretch of Driggs Avenue, inviting New Yorkers to come together, share delicious pastries, and connect with fellow marathon participants. The event is scheduled from noon to 2 PM, right next to McCarren Park, between North 12th Street and Lorimer Street.

Organized by Pastry Runners in collaboration with The Longest Table, North Brooklyn Parks Alliance, and North Brooklyn Open Streets, this potluck is designed for runners and run clubs from across the city. However, participation is open to anyone who enjoys good food and community spirit, regardless of their running background or training regimen. It’s an opportunity to swap miles for a communal meal before the NYC Marathon.

Participants are encouraged to bring a carb-based dish to share, whether it’s bread, bagels, pastries, or homemade treats. This event not only allows runners to carbo-load in a fun and social setting but also fosters a sense of community among neighbors and fellow food lovers. It’s a chance for attendees to showcase their favorite baked goods and perhaps introduce their neighbors to a new culinary delight.

Connecting Through Shared Culinary Experiences

The Longest Pastry Table draws inspiration from The Longest Table initiative, which aims to connect strangers over shared meals. Since its inception in Chelsea in 2022, the initiative has expanded significantly, with 44 similar events planned across the five boroughs in 2026 and over 150 taking place nationwide. This Brooklyn edition also aligns with the North Brooklyn Open Streets program, which has been promoting community engagement and outdoor activities since 2020.

Across the Line

As Driggs Avenue transforms into a vibrant gathering space, the event will create a lively atmosphere for participants to enjoy their favorite pastries and engage in friendly conversations. There’s no set menu, so the variety of treats will depend entirely on what guests bring, making it a delightful surprise for everyone involved.

This pastry potluck not only serves as a pre-marathon gathering but also highlights the importance of community in the running culture. It’s a reminder that running is not just about competition; it’s also about camaraderie and shared experiences. So, whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or simply someone who enjoys a good pastry, this event promises to be a sweet way to connect with others before the big race.
